Michael Morpurgo

Hugh talking to Michael

Hugh talking to Michael

Louisa – When Michael first started writing, he was in his twenties.

Hugh – He told us about his new book, called Kaspar: the prince of cats.

Charlotte – We got to ask Michael lots of questions.

Michael called us the Banana School because of our yellow jackets.

[Please Note: this post is not finished yet - other children in the class will post their thoughts on meeting Michael Morpurgo next week]

Pets

I have written this poem for my personal project.

PETS

Cats are fluffy and they eat fish.

Dogs are cute and they eat their food fast.

Rabbits dig holes and they eat lettuce.

Fish can swim and eat bread crumbs.

Hamsters run around in their wheels.

Budgies make funny noises.

Guinea pigs live in straw.

Horse are fun to ride on.

Ferrets like to lick people.

Any type of pet is good to have!

Our Energy Topic

In our energy topic we learned about fossil fuels. We found out that oil is used to make plastic. Fossil fuels like oil are not renewable and one day the world could run out of oil. That would mean that there would be no more plastic getting made.

Although we cannot renew oil, we can recycle plastic to make new plastic things.

We decided that we could help save the environment if we persuaded people to remember to recycle their plastic bottles. We wrote persuasive letters and made persuasive posters to encourage others to recycle.

We set up our own plastic bottle bank in the school. We gave each class a box to save their empty plastic juice and water bottles in. Every Friday we collect the bottles and count them. Then Mrs Brown our cleaner puts the bag out to be collected. We are pleased to be helping the environment.

We are going to try to collect 1000 bottles this year.

My Holiday

A big pig spat on me.

Ani was laughing at me and the cow licked me.

The dog bit me.

The hen had birth on me and the cat scared me.

The horse goes nininini!

The sheep go babababa!

I like the farm.

I researched these facts about volcanoes -

The Indonesian volcano, Tambora, which erupted in 1815 produced so much ash that world temperatures fell sharply in the following year. New England, in the eastern USA, had severe frosts in August.
Mount Pinatubo, which erupted in the Phillipines in June 1991, released nearly 8 cubic kilometres of ash. This totals eight times as much ash as at the eruption of Mount St Helens.
